Prawn With The Wind {Honey Sesame Shrimp Skewers}

Jump to recipe

Another quick summer recipe comin’ at cha!!

Honey Sesame Shrimp Skewers. OH MY GAWDDDDD.

These are crazy good, crazy quick, and crazy easy to throw together. If you’ve read any of my other posts on shrimp, you know I’m nuts about Trader Joe’s Wild Argentenian Red Shrimp. They’re big, delicious, and already shelled and deveined to make your life a whole lot easier. We pick up a bag of these almost every trip we take to Trader Joe’s. If you haven’t tried them yet, pick up a bag in the frozen section of Trader Joe’s on your next trip.

As you know, I’m grilling everything in sight this time of year. These shrimp being my newest addition to the line up. The marinade is sweet from the honey and nutty from the sesame, but not overpowering. The shrimp still shine through and pick up a delicious charred flavor from being grilled over flame. I can’t wait for you to give them a try.

The salad I am serving these babies with is my grilled everything salad which I posted a bit ago. If you plan on grilling your shrimp, it’s a great idea to make this salad along with it. This salad  is delicious with any protein but particularly good with these grilled shrimp. It makes a well rounded meal that is both light, satisfying….and did I mention pretty!! As soon as you plate this it will be prawn with the wind.

Let’s get started.

Step 1: Keep it shrimple. If you’re using my favorite wild red Argentenian shrimp from Trader Joe’s make sure to defrost. Once they’re good and defrosted, let’s get those babies marinating. Combine soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and ginger in a mixing bowl. Add your shrimp. Refrigerate and allow the shrimp to marinade for 20-30 minutes. Keep your additional marinade for grilling.

Step 2: Stick to what you’re good at. Let’s get the shrimp on some sticks. Skewer your shrimp and be careful not to overcrowd them. I usually can fit 4-5 per skewer. This will help them to cook evenly. Brush your shrimp with olive oil.

Step 3: Fire. Fire up your grill over medium high heat. Lightly oil or spray down your grill racks. Put down your shrimp grilling 2 minutes per side. Brush your shrimp with the additional marinade when you flip them. Remove from the grill. Top with additional sesame seeds.

Hey you!

So, you want to cook? Right? Isn't that why you're here? Fine. I will help you. Not because we're friends yet, but because I'm trying to be welcoming. This IS after all my space that you've barged in on (unannounced mind you) in that little white....wait a minute...are you wearing a chef's hat? Goodness, you're darling!! You've won me over already. So.....what did you have in mind? Seared Foi Grois? Seven hour leg of lamb? Perhaps a simple Sicilian bolognese? "YES, YES, A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!" Then, teach you I shall. I am warning you though, when you come here use caution. You will leave hungry. Inspired? Yes. But, hungry most definitely...
